A recent article published in Medicinal Chemistry Communications by researchers from The Australian National University sheds light on the possible role that Oxytocin may have in helping fight cancer.
“This is very exciting news.” says Dr. Luis Martinez, an Integrative Medicine Specialist and Oxytocin Researcher. “We are slowly discovering how certain peptide imbalances may cause cancer, asthma and inflammatory conditions. What’s more exciting is the fact that we might be able to use oxytocin to help modulate and restore these imbalances.”
“From a scientific point of view, this is a real breakthrough. It increases the potential therapeutic scope for oxytocin-based therapies. It also suggests a possible connection between the psychosomatic effects of oxytocin (decreased stress, increased well being, happiness) and decreased cancer and morbidity rates found in people who lead stress-free and happier lives. It could all be specifically related to the biomodulatory effects of oxytocin. Although more research is needed, it’s is a great start.”
